What is a “Pre-Engineered”
building?
A
Pre-Engineered Building or Metal Building as they are often
called is a complete building “package” with
engineered components fabricated in a manufacturing plant
shipped to a jobsite and erected. The components consist
of main frames; beams & columns, secondary members; roof
purlins or bar joist and wall framing. The completed structure
can be covered in metal panels or with masonry, glass curtinwalls
and a variety of other materials.
How is this different
from conventional structural steel construction?
In conventional methods, a structural steel
frame is erected and other components are used for the secondary
members and enclosing the structure. With a “Pre-Engineered”
building all the components for a completed structure including
exterior wall systems are manufactured and shipped as a complete
building package.
When should
“Pre-Engineered” construction methods be considered?
Often budget is
a determining factor in a building project. Traditionally
a pre-engineered building is more cost effective than conventional
structural steel systems. With the versatility of a larger
spans and open floor space that can be achieved in this type
of construction, the needs of our customers can be met without
large added cost.
Does Pre-Engineered
construction meet building codes?
Yes. The structures are manufactured to
meet the specific building codes of the local areas along
with the owner’s requirements. Snow loads, live loads,
dead loads, wind loads and seismic loading are all considered
during the design of the structure. The building members
are then custom designed and manufactured for the specific
project.
Can
the other materials and finishes be used with Pre-Engineered
Buildings?
Absolutely! Many have seen
a pre-engineered building with metal siding. This may be
the most cost effective but, a variety of other materials
and finishes can be utilized. We have incorporated single-ply
roofing systems, masonry, glass, and a number of other systems
to meet our customer’s needs.
